April 6: CommuniTEA!

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

CommuniTEA is our weekly virtual program where students (2nd to 8th grade) and mentors meet to share feelings, write and create together. Enjoy our CommuniTEA update below:

Educators and doctors say that children may seem resilient, but these challenging times are trying them. It was evident in the response to questions today. It’s been a tiring year. But once again, CommuniTEA leaders had the right approach and nothing was pushed.

It was a time for connections, congrats and hang-in-theres. Along with that, students did some self-examination writing and drawing to explore things in our lives that bring us joy. I could have stopped at “CommuniTEA time,” but chose to get more personal, as everyone did. We all promised to add to our list of joy while we pause sessions for two weeks due to spring break.

What I really want to know is what is happening in the breakout room with the Rain City Rock Team, where a creative endeavor is underway!

And... that question can be answered from someone who was a part of the fun happening with Rain City Rock! First, students got time to finish (or come close to finishing) their Identity Podcast. We heard samples from some brave students who shared their podcasts and are so excited to hear more of their creative work when we have a virtual open mic in the near future!

This week's tea recommendation: Mint Medley Bigelow Herbal Tea!

Until next time!
